Jesus' Descent into Hell

[Jesus' Descent into Hell] ..."he descended into hell", where does the Bible say that?
Q:In the Apostles' Creed we say "he descended into hell", where does the Bible say that?

A:The Bible teaches Christ's descent into hell in 1 Peter 3:18-19: "For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit, through whom also he went and preached to the spirits in prison." The spirits in prison are those who are in hell. Some believe that Ephesians 4:8-10 also teaches the descent into hell: "This is why it says: ‘When he ascended on high, he led captives in his train and gave gifts to men.' (What does ‘he ascended' mean except that he also descended to the lower, earthly regions? He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe.)" Some take the "lower, earthly regions," mentioned in these verses to refer to hell, although this is more likely a reference to Jesus' incarnation, when he descended to this earth in the flesh of a fragile baby.
