Q:I cannot find a passage mentioning Joseph & Jesus' siblings being in attendance at His crucifixion - help?

A:The reason you cannot find a passage mentioning Joseph and Jesus' siblings being in attendance at his crucifixion is because there are none. John 19:25 tells us, "Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene." The "beloved disciple" was also in attendance (John 19:26-27). Mark 15:40 also informs us, "Some women were watching from a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome." It is possible that other disciples were in attendance, although they are not mentioned in any of the gospel accounts.

The last time Joseph is recorded as being present with Jesus is in Luke 2:41-51 when he is twelve years old. This has led many scholars to conjecture that Joseph died before his son reached adulthood. As for Jesus' siblings, he had four brothers – James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas – as well as sisters, though they are not named or numbered (Matthew 13:55-56). Many of his family members seemed to have little faith in him (cf. Mark 3:21) which may account for their absence at the crucifixion, although, as with the other disciples, it is possible that they were there and simply not mentioned. Gloriously, James clearly later trusts in Jesus and becomes an apostle (Galatians 1:19) and author of the Epistle of James.
